Master craftsperson of the month – Claudio Sabariego Albor

Claudio Sabariego Albor has been selected by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation and INTBAU Spain as master craftsperson of the month for October 2026.

Claudio Sabariego Albor is a craftsperson from Seville who specialises in the reproduction of medium- and large-scale sculptural and ornamental ceramic pieces, particularly for the restoration of architectural heritage. He learned the craft in his father’s workshop, who had trained in the historic ceramic workshops of Triana, and completed his education at the School of Applied Arts in Seville, where he specialised in sculpture. His work is based on traditional techniques such as modelling, plaster mould-making, and press moulding, which allows complex shapes to be reproduced with great fidelity to the originals. He is also skilled in various ceramic decoration techniques, including maiolica and cuerda seca, as well as the reproduction of historic glazes and colours.

Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous preservation and restoration projects involving Seville’s architectural heritage. His most notable work includes the reproduction and replacement of ceramic elements at the Plaza de España, María Luisa Park, the Royal Alcázar of Seville, the University of Seville’s Rectorate, and the Convent of Santa Clara.
