Call for entries open for the 2025–2027 Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition

The Traditional Building Cultures Foundation has launched the second phase of the 2025–2027 Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition, an international call for architects of all nationalities to develop architectural and urban design proposals for three Spanish towns: Aracena (Huelva), Frigiliana (Málaga), and Sahagún (León), selected during the first phase of the competition.

The competition aims to promote architecture and urbanism that build upon local traditions, support the preservation of built heritage, and contribute to the regeneration of degraded urban areas. Particular consideration will be given to proposals that respect the architectural identity of each town and make use of traditional materials, techniques, and construction methods.

A first prize of €12,000 will be awarded for each of the three sites, along with up to three honourable mentions of €2,000 each per town.

Participation is free of charge and open to architects and teams from Spain and abroad. The deadline for submitting proposals is 11 February 2027, at 19:00 (CET).

The full competition rules, documentation for the selected sites, and registration form are available on the Foundation’s website.

The competition is organised by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation, with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with INTBAU Spain and the Higher Council of Architects’ Associations of Spain (CSCAE).
