Miguel Sobrino González has been selected by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation and INTBAU Spain as master craftsperson of the month for September 2025.
The work of master stonemason and sculptor Miguel Sobrino is distinguished by his fidelity to traditional methods of direct carving. In both his stonemasonry and sculpture, he dispenses with preliminary volumetric models and instead relies on drawing, profiles, and templates, which guide the entire process of working the stone. His understanding of stereotomy is rooted in the line as a generative principle: he believes that the creative act does not lie in transferring a preconceived design onto the stone block, but in the very act of carving it.

For this purpose, he uses hand tools such as the hand tracer, the mallet, the bull point chisel, the chisel or the tooth chisel as well as templates and bebels that allow him to practice his craft with precision. Miguel Sobrino combines his work as a stonemason with a strong vocation for teaching and dissemination.
