The Reconstruction of Cultural Heritage International Seminar 2018

Results

A wide range of projects, reflections, initiatives and programmes were presented on the reconstruction of urban complexes, buildings or parts of buildings. These are considered a necessary intervention for their effective long-term conservation or for the recovery of their symbolic value, especially when their disappearance or ruin is the result of natural disasters or violent actions such as wars or attacks.

The speakers presented different approaches to this subject, from the large scale of the design or transformation of neighbourhoods and cities punished by various conflicts or by the disinterest, abandonment and even negligence of those in charge of them, to the small scale of the crafts specific to each territory and culture and their transmission to future generations. A more theoretical point of view that highlights the diversity of interpretations and debates surrounding recent interventions that have taken place in heritage complexes from all periods was also considered.
