Juan Ángel López García has been selected by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation as master craftsperson of the month for June 2024.
Juan Angel is a master stonemason from Almeria who does all kinds of work with stone such as marble or granite. Among the architectural elements that he creates are capitals, corbels and friezes, among others. He does carving of all kinds, for ornamental, funerary or religious artefacts.
The material he receives from the quarry is cut up as appropriate for each object with the aid of cutting machines for roughing, so as to prepare the stone for carving. Once an even surface has been achieved, a design is hand-drawn on the stone and a precise carving process begins.
