Juan Ángel López García has been selected by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation as master craftsperson of the month for June 2024.
Juan Ángel is a master stonemason from Almería who works with stone, marble, and granite. The architectural elements he creates include capitals, corbels, and friezes, among others. He is capable of executing any type of stone carving, whether for ornamental, funerary, or religious elements.
The material received from the quarry is cut into the appropriate shapes using cutting machines for roughing, preparing the stone for carving. Once a smooth surface is achieved, they hand-draw the design directly onto the material and begin the precise carving work.
