8/9/2025: Deadline for submission of proposals
11/11/2025: Publication of the sixth issue of the Journal of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism.
14–16/11/2025: Conference in Écija, Spain
This year the conference will take place in-person in Écija, from 14 to 16 November. The in-person program will include debates, lectures by international architects, and demonstrations by master artisans of traditional building crafts. Presentations will address the various topics proposed within the framework of the conference.
The conference will also be available online, as all sessions will be live-streamed, recorded, and later published on the website in the weeks following the event. The in-person program will be complemented by a series of pre-recorded lectures, based on the articles, essays, and built work featured in the upcoming issue of the Journal of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism, which will be published to coincide with the conference dates.
This conference is organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation thanks to Richard H. Driehaus and in collaboration with INTBAU Spain, INTBAU Portugal, the Fundação Serra Henriques, the Écija City Council and the Royal Academy of Sciences, Fine Arts and Humanities “Luis Vélez de Guevara”.
All researchers, academics, and professionals involved in traditional building, architecture, and urbanism who work in —or have an interest in— the topics proposed for this conference are invited to submit their proposals for participation.
All proposals will undergo a selection process, as detailed below, and may be accepted either for presentation in the on-site or online programs of the conference, or for publication in the upcoming issue of the Journal of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism. Some proposals may be selected for both.
Proposals may take the form of presentations of built works or research papers. Regardless of the format, all submissions must be sent to: info@culturasconstructivas.org.
Submitted proposals must align with the topics scheduled for the conference. The deadline for submission is 8 September 2025. Once received, the organizing team will review each proposal to ensure it meets the objectives of the conference.
Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their proposal around 22 September 2025.
If the proposal is selected for online or in-person presentation during the conference, or for publication in the Journal of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism, the author will receive the necessary preparation guidelines.
Proposals may consist of documentation of built works or research papers related to the topics of the conference.
The format of both types of proposals must comply with the submission guidelines of the Journal of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism.
Conference proposals must be submitted by email to: info@culturasconstructivas.org, and not through the journal’s online submission system.
